What colleges allow applications from undergraduate college freshman for the spring?

I have no plan to leave the college I will be attending in the fall. However, just in case, I am preparing some applications for the spring semester. I know a lot of colleges won't allow spring admissions, or transfer admissions before a given amount of time at another college. I am wondering what colleges do accept a freshman who wants to transfer and begin attending that new college in the spring after only one semester of their current college. I also have a few friends who were denied by their first choice colleges and had to enroll in a college they don't really want to be at, and they are looking for alternatives a.s.a.p. Thank you for any advice.

As far as I know, you can apply to transfer to a different college at any time. The problem with doing so in your freshman year is that you would not have yet earned any final college grades at the time you would be applying to the second school. So essentially they would rely upon your high school grades and test scores to weigh your suitability as a candidate.

Obviously if someone was not acceptable in the fall with those credentials, nothing would have changed for a spring acceptance.

If you begin college in Fall 2007 and apply to transfer for Fall 2008, you would have at least one semester's college work for them to evaluate; possibly two if you wait to apply after freshman year has ended though I think that's a bit late and for some majors, they may have limits and be already closed to new students.

Tell your friends who are in a hurry to transfer that their best bet is to really buckle down and get the best possible grades they can in fall semester and again in spring. In most cases they'd be better to plan to stay for the full year at the first school. It'll go quickly because remember, we're only talking a few months!
