College questions?

I'm a junior in high school and i realized i know nothing about colleges and i haven't even thought of it yet.

What is the difference between a community college and a public college?

Do you have to have amazing grades to get into colleges?

Do they have dorms at all colleges, like community ones too?

I want to go to college but my grades are just average..could i get into good colleges or should i just go to a community college?

Do you have to fill out applications for community colleges?

Thanks.:)

College questions?
Community colleges are smaller and the course work will not be as challenging as a public college. There are no GPA or standardized testing requirements for community colleges as opposed to a normal college. Different colleges require different GPA's and testing scores so no, you don't need amazing grades to get into college. It really depends on which colleges you apply to.

You should always try and apply for your dream college, even if your grades do not meet the "requirements" because usually, those requirements are just the average grades. They also take into a lot of other things like SAT/ACT scores, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, leadership positions, work experience, etc. so grades do not make or break your chances.

There are advantages to enrolling in a community college. First off, the tuition will be much cheaper than a normal college so it will save you a lot of money for your first two years. After two years, if you maintain a good grade say a 3.5 or higher, you can transfer into a normal college. Some community colleges have programs where if you manage to keep a certain grade say a 3.5 or higher, then you're guaranteed to transfer into a certain college in the area. After you transfer and finish your first four years of college, your diploma will state that you got it from that college so employers will see even though you took two years at CC. A lot of people will take this route because it saves them a lot of money and some people believe that transfering from a CC or another college is easier than enrolling straight from high school.

Hope this helped, Good Luck!
Reply:I would suggest a community college first. They are usually easier than major. always check to make sure that the classes transfer. ( count at major colleges also.) The community college that im attending has dorms but not many. You do have to apply but its usualls your basic info. not all into detail like major ones are. Junior colleses are the same as community and are alot easier to get into then major univ. As long as you breath you can usually get in. and are alos alto cheaper.

Reply:i dont know if community colleges have dorms but from i know they dont. when it comes to choosing a school if you want to get into a really good school you might have to do two years in a community college which isnt bad because your first two years of college are spent doing GEC general ed courses math, science, language etc.. you are also able to save up the only reason i perfer just going into a four year is that you almost never drop out unlike at a junior college where the drop out rate is high. try a state school or a smaller school i have friend who did have really good grades or sat scores and still got into good schools like U san francisco Chapman univ and st mary's collge in california.
