I go to a Private School in Dallas. What GPA would I need for certain schools approximently if anyone knows? Schools like UCLA, SMU, Rice, Brown and just other ones if you know. Please help me and I will give you best answer. Thanks.

College...?
There is no minimum or cutoff point. GPA ranges from school to school so it's not really a common yardstick- some may have worked for 3.8s and be top of their class while another school may hand out 4s like candy. Just keep it as high as you can.
Reply:As close to a 4.0 as possible! These schools are VERY competitive! They also look at more than GPA. They look at activities, achievements and awards, community service, etc.
Reply:It usually depends on several factors besides your GPA. The biggest factor is your SAT scores. It's usually a sliding scale. For example if your GPA is above X.X then you only have to get XXXX on the SAT. Each school is different though and just because you don't have a certain GPA or SAT score doesn't mean you absolutely can't attend that school. Other things such as extra curriculars and such can push you over the top.

Even more importantly, you should evaluate the cost vs. reward of the school you would like to attend. Going to SMU may not be in your best interest if you have no scholarships. SMU has a fantastic business school but going to SMU instead of UNT, UTD, UT or some other school without scholarships is VERY expensive (it's private). Also, the school you go to does not influence the salary you will get once you leave college very much. Going to Harvard never hurt someone's salary, but going to Harvard vs. a local public university is not usually a large difference in salary. Even more important, if you plan on getting your masters degree, the school you go for your undergrad degree is of minimal importance.
