College???

Can i get into Marshall or WVU with a 2.779 but i am in 3 honors and 1200 on the sat without writing.

College???
From the WVU admissions site:

Minimum Requirements for Application Review

(meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission)

West Virginia residents

must have at least a 2.0 grade-point average and either a composite ACT score of 19 or a combined critical reading and math SAT score of 910.

Nonresidents

must have at least a 2.25 grade-point average and either an ACT composite score of 21 or a combined critical reading and math SAT score of 990.

Please note that WVU does not mix and match sub scores from different test dates for admissions and scholarship consideration. Only the best composite score is used in determining eligibility.

--------------------------------------...

From the Marshall admissions site:

General Requirements:

An Overall Grade Point Average of at least 2.00 (C average) and a composite score of at least 19 on the ACT or a combined score (critical reading + math) of at least 910 on the SAT.

It looks like you are well within their range for grades and test scores, so all you can do is try. Good luck to you.

Hope this is helpful.

i am interested in applying to a couple of schools including u notre dame and uva, but they don't accept the common application and it seems like a lot of extra work expecially for uva....if you have attended these schools, is the extra work worth it? should i still apply?...thank you

College?????
It's always worth it to apply to another school that you want to go to, even if you have to fill out another application. I applied to 4 UCs, Stanford, NYU, and Columbia, which was 4 separate applications. Just make sure you are really interested in the school, otherwise you won't be motivated to do a good job on your application.
Reply:absolutley! The worst they can say is no, you didn't get in and yes it is disappointing, but you can over come it. If you do get in, you will be in one of the best schools in the nation, it is well worth any and all of the extra work that may be required to get in and stay in. I wish you the best of luck.

Besides that you will have the honor to say that you graduated from U of Notre Dame or UVA. This would be an amazing accomplishment.

Good Luck!
Reply:is the extra work worth it..??!!! What the *$^% do you think. This is real life. Grow up

College?????

Ok, right now I am a sophomore in high school, I am thinking about becoming a lawyer. How does law school work ? do you have to receive your bachelors and masters before you can enter law school ? and if so, what do you have to major in.

College?????
If you are thinking of law school, you need a bachelor's degree. Usually, people who go into law are in the major

political science, philosophy, or some in English. Then you

will have to take LSAT, which is the entrance exam for law school. Law is another 3 years of school after receiving your bachelor's degree. Law school is generally tough because I've heard from friends that you there is one exam per class.
Reply:In order to reach your career goal of becoming a lawyer, you first need to obtain a bachelors degree and a very respectable accumulative GPA and then obtain a good score on the LSATs to gain entry into an accredited law school. Many students choose to major in Pre-law during their undergraduate years in preparation for the LSATs and law study but this major is not required. As long as you get proper advisement from your college advisor as to the courses that are recommended to prepare you adequately for this law school entrance exam, you could major in any course of study that interests you. What is most essential is that you develop your communication skills -both oral and written, your analytical skills, and organizational skills. So, the most important thing to keep in mind is to select a college major in whatever field of study interests you the most and to excel in it. You may even discover that you would like to focus on this concentration in your law career. Good luck in your future endeavors!

College...?
step daughter graduated two years ago and loved it. She is now a 5th grade school teacher and loves that too. good luck

College...?

Can you accel. quicker up to a WO if you have a Bach. degree?

College...?
Depends on the service. In the navy you have to be an E-7 with 12 years of experience before you are eligible to apply for warrant officer. I have known people who left the navy as E-4's with 4 years of service and joined the army as warrant officer helicopter pilots. Either way you have to be enlisted prior to becoming a WO. Having a degree before you join wont help as much as gaining one while you are in as that shows growth on your evaluations. Good luck whatever you choose.
Reply:Yes, the more education you have, the faster you will be promoted.

But education is only part of what promotion boards look for.
Reply:nope, still have to have time in grade for the preceeding ranks, unless you use the Army's warrant program ..High school to Flight School.. go in, do basic, and then learn to fly Helos.

nowe havinga 4 year degree coming in will net you at least E3 and possibly E4, so you can skip over the time requirements to get there.
Reply:you can become an officer with a bs or a ba

College..?!?

how many units of PE would i have to take to make it equal to 2 high school semesters (per highschool semester its 5.0 credits..) so i'm confused...

College..?!?
it varies on how many credits the class in college is. normally if your look at the class in a course schedule book or online it will tell you how many credits a class is. PE classes i think range around 1 or 2 credits so you would probably need to take anywhere from 5-10 pe classes and you can probably take more than one pe class a semester

College ...?

would you say there is alot of difference between colleges in england and america ??

i mean other than the education btw

thnks xxx

College ...?
Do you mean universities? Because "college" in the UK means something different from college in the US.

There are differences between how universities work in England, versus those in the US. The most noticeable is that a bachelor's degree in England takes only 3 years, while in the US, it takes four. That's mainly because by the time most UK students reach university, they've actually had one extra year of school than US students have. They started a year earlier. Once they reach uni, they also don't have the electives and gen ed courses that US students are required to take. Almost all their work at uni is done within their major course of study. And while in the US most university classes are lectures in format, in the UK, it's often more independent study in format, guided by a professor/tutor.

In the US, you can enter university undecided on a major. Once you do pick a major, you can usually change it easily. In the UK, that's not the case. You must pick a course before you enter university, and once you're in, if you decide to change courses, making that change is difficult, and often means that you must start again at year 1. Likewise, you can't simply "transfer your credits" to a new university, if you want to change schools. Instead, you must start again at the new uni, at year 1. In the US, you can usually bring those credits to a new university, and start there as an advanced student.

The halls of residence in England are different than the dorms in the US. In the US, most dorm rooms are shared, and you bring your own linens. In the UK, most rooms are singles, and they provide linens. In the UK, most residence halls have cafeterias in the building, but in the US, that's not always the case - you may have to walk to a separate facility.

At some UK universities, where you live - your college within the university, and thus your hall of residence - determines what your major/course of study can be, where you take classes, who your professors are, what sports teams you can be on, what sports and activities are offered, maybe even what library you can use, and etc. In the US, that sort of thing is shared by the entire university.

Interestingly, in the UK, most residence halls have bars that serve alcohol. That is NOT the case in the US. That's unheard of in the US, and it would raise some eyebrows.

I find that uni students in England smoke a lot more than those in the US. In England, more drink more often, but in the US, more binge drink. In the US, there's Greek system (frats/sororities), while in the UK, that does not exist. In the US, university sports can be big business - in the UK, that's not the case at all.

Based on the grammar and spelling mistakes in your question, wherever they have a good English department.
Reply:have a look at all three if you can be choosey and enjoy the experience I'm sure you will get a lot of benefit from this good luck in your chosen career. It will be a lot of hard work but well worth it. Even if you may not be convinced of this now. Ignore the first answer they will help with spelling or basic education, don't be put off College is there for everyone who makes the effort.
Reply:I live in CT and WCSU is one of those schools that A LOT of people go to. (CCSU, ECSU, SCSU, UCONN) You are gonna meet alot of ct natives. western is a decent school, but theres really not much to do around ct..

if you are pursuing to be a teacher, it's best to graduate from one of the ct schools, because if you can be hired to be a teacher in ct, you can be hired anywhere in the US. CT has the hardest teacher proficiency test in the nation.
Reply:really up to you. you should go and visit the place and choose the one where you like the most.

College????

im looking at different colleges i want to go to and so far its eiher uc davis or cambridge. can anyone tell me anything about either of those schools, or suggest others and tell me why you suggested it.

College????
UC Davis, once mostly an agricultural college, now has a superior reputation in many fields ... including medicine.
Reply:UC Davis has the top vet school in the country.
Reply:When you say Cambridge, which school do you mean? Do you mean Cambridge University in England, Cambridge College in the US or one of the schools in the Cambridge, Massachusetts area? They are all quite different, and they're also different from UC Davis.

UC Davis is a good state school. Cambridge University in England is also a good public school, but it's in another country with a different system so that would be a different experience. Cambridge College is not well known at all.

College...?

Good Colleges to go to?

College...?
The best college for you would be the one that offers lots of instruction for the field you'd like to enter.

For example: you want to be a lawyer...so Harvard may be a really good college for you. Meanwhile, you want to be a lawyer ... so MIT would NOT be a good college for you because MIT is a technology-oriented campus.

Which colleges offer the major you want? . ...with additional courses to help you work towards your doctorate's, if you so desire.

Before you take any courses at a community and/or technical college, you may want to verify that those courses will later transfer to the credit system for the larger educational institutions in your state.

Best of everything!

By the way, college will be a blast because you get more flexibility about the courses you take, etc. It will be harder work, and you'll have to learn good time-management skills, and you'll find yourself being very proud of your accomplishments!

College???

I have a question about going school... If I am having difficulties because of injuries going to school everyday because of doctor's appointments, physical therapy, etc. Is there anyway for me to keep my grades up because my school and teachers are not very accomodating so my grades in certain things are going to take a hit this quarter and I can't do anything about it. So is there anyway for me to do something like homeschooling for a semester, that colleges will not look badly upon because I am missing a lot of school due to an injury. Thanks in advanced for answering my question...

PS thorough answers are appreciated. Thank you again.

College???
Have your mom and doctor get together. My cousin went through the same thing after a car accident and ended up having a tutor come to his house for the first semester of his Jr year.

The process was long, but it involved his mom petitioning and talking to the principal and part of the school board. Then the doctor had to prove that being in the school atmosphere wasn't helping his heel.
Reply:I recommend you discuss your options with your teachers and high school counselor. It may be that your doctor can write a note requesting that you do your work from home and over the computer (if that is at all possible). Perhaps you can take some make-up courses in the summer, before fall and ask how that would affect your graduation? Home schooling?

Best wishes. I hope you feel better soon.
Reply:Have a parent and a doctor recommend home bound instruction.

College???

I want to be either a psychiatrist or a nurse in the birth department. Either way I will have to go to medical school. So what is one of the best medical colleges to go to??

College???
Alot of the better Colleges offer pre-med, which you'll need to do first. 4 years of pre-med in college, then you graduate and go to Medical school. YOu could try doubling up, as in going to NYU for Pre-med, and then going to NYU medical School. Or the same with Harvard, or Columbia, or U of Chicago, etc...

As for medical schools...Oh god! there are alot. John's Hopkins, Harvard, NYU Medical, Washington, Duke, Michigan, Yale, Cornell, U of Chicago is great, Stanford, Penn, Columbia is great. Depends on how much money you want to or can spend. If i had the coin and wanted to do med school, ild break my neck to get into Johns Hopkins in Baltimore..Harvard has the rep as the king, but Johns Hopkins i think is the Cream.
Reply:Medical school comes after college. You'll have to go somewhere for 4 years of premed first.
Reply:the cheapest.

but i'm the only guy who will tell you that i guess.

Anyway, good luck!
Reply:To be a nurse you don't have to go to med school. You have to go to a school with a BSN program. Tons of places have them. Also, working in the obstetrics part of a hospital is fun, but tough. You have to be able to deal with miscarriages, deaths, and sick babies. Make sure you're able to handle all that before you get to into that career choice. The first acephalic baby I helped deliver was heartwrenching, and the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Several of the newer nurses weren't able to deal with it. As for med schools, the University of Oklahom has a great MD program.

College.....!?

Okay I don't know where to start. I'm a senior in high school and may 5 is my grad date, i was planning on going to a university but my plans fell to the side, and i blame myself for that. I haven't taken my SAT, i haven't applied for colleges, I haven't even applied for financial aid. I'm just so worried that my life is going to be like crap. I know that i should've been on the ball but now that I look at I'm kind of scared of what comes after high school. I need a car, a job, and i need to go to school. I'm trying to find a job but I have youth camp in july for 5 days and I have a mission trip in june 5-9 and I don't think they'll be up to letting me have those days off. I don't know maybe I'm gonna have to make a decision on whether my education is more important than going to camp or mexico. I guess I can get a job and ask if I can have the days off and if I can't then I guess I can live with it but if you have anymore helpful hints please tell me..

College.....!?
Community college, that is what i would do, heck that is what I did. I turned down a partial scholarship to MIZZOU to attend the community college in my town. I than transferred to a state university having gotten my associates and filled all the general ed class for a heck of a lot less than it cost to go to a University straight away.

I also recieved an MBA from a private school. I had a great

time at community college learned a lot, saved a lot of money, and encourage everyone to consider it.

Also go to camp and go to mexico, the type of job you're qualified for now, doesn't pay much and are easy to find. Trips to Mexico and camp will not come along very often. In 10 years, 20, 30 years, I can assure you that you will not think back to the job you did to skip a trip to mexico.

Also missionary work, looks good on scholarship applications after you finish at a community college :-)
Reply:You should think about applying to Community College. I'm sure you'll get accepted as long as you Graduate from high school. That way you can work, and save up your money. Then after you receive an Associate's Degree you can transfer to a 4 year university!

Good Luck
Reply:Go to community college and then transfer, they don't need SAT score, just your GRAD

HOpe that help
Reply:Don't just give up on college. There's no rule saying you must go the fall after high school graduation. You definitely need a job in the meantime, but if you can't go on vacay, thats just something you will have to deal with. Going to a community college in the meanwhile is also an option, most universities may accept your basic maths and englishes taken there.

Otherwise, take your SAT's and start applying to colleges (you can state you'd like to begin in Spring 2008 if you rather not be too rushed). You can also start applying for financial aid right now, even if you don't know what you want to do. Go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ to fill out a free federal financial aid form to send to schools you choose. The schools will hold your info pending your application acceptance.

In the end, this is only a decision you can make yourself. But I definitely encourage you to try and pursue your education. You can even talk to your school counselor, an advisor at the admissions dept of your preferred colleges, or someone you know who is going to college to get even more info. Don't just give up because you haven't done anything yet. You can go to college anytime you want.

College............?

I am trying to pick between Chico State or Cal State East Bay? And I need help. I am going to major in being a nurse and both colleges have a nursing programs. Anyone know which one is better or you opinon. please and thank you!!!!!!

College............?
Visit each one again and decide which one you feel more comfortable at (the admissions office could even let you shadow a student for a day - sleeping in the dorm and attending classes - it might help them if you tell them that you're particularly interested in shadowing a student majoring in nursing).
Reply:I'm not sure the quality is all that different, so it comes down to whether you would rather be in the middle of an urban area or in a very small town.
Reply:I would go to the one that is closest to home, you might need help or someone on your side. It is nice to have people around that love you.

Extra:

Religious Education .. haha but it counts =]

Thanks! I had to re-post this, I think that it got messed up!

College???????
can you give some of that enthusiasm to my son?
Reply:You are doing remarkably well. I suggest you get into the Math and English honors society in the 11th grade as well as the Honors society. Taking honors class helps but remember anyone can get in if they have a core GPA of 3.5 or higher in a class.
Reply:This should be more than enough for you to get into a "good" college, though maybe not the one(s) you are dreaming of.

You should remember that no matter what college you may get into, even an Ivy League college, you will be very lucking indeed if you find only one good professor that really connects with you.

Like all other human organizations, colleges themselves have their share of corruption and dead wood even at senior faculty levels.

College???

Does freshmen year count towards colleges? Do they look at it, or care as much about it as other grades?

College???
Yes. It effects your class rank as much as any other year and most large schools will probably look only at class rank and SAT unless you are on the borderline to be accepted. I am certain my lousy freshman year of hs cost me admission to a college, as my other quals pretty much matched classmates who did get in. Of course it all depends how bad it really was, and if you are actually on the border line they will probably take you over somebody with a lousy junior year.
Reply:Most universities look at your overall GPA, consistency or major progress and work done in your community helps. Generally though its all about your GPA, SAT score, and college essay
Reply:Yup, it definately counts. But if you make some mistakes, they might overlook it. Still, if you do badly enough, it can really destroy a GPA.

College??????

What is it that colleges look at when you apply besides your transcript?

College??????
They look at your extracurricular activities - in and out of school.

One of the most important things though is your ESSAY. This is one of THE most, if not most important, aspects of your whole application. Write from the heart - meaning don't just write what you think they want to hear, they can see right through that. Be honest and write it well. Good luck!
Reply:They look at things you were involved in while in school. They like to see someone well rounded and focused on other aspects as well as academics.

Also some schools may have an essay to give them an idea into your life.

You'd need a bachelor's (4 years) first, and that is when you would minor in Art.

Most master's degrees last 2 to 3 years if you're a full-time student. Most people take longer than that because they work or have other things to worry about.

I plan to go to a community college forst to get my associate degree and then jump into a university. So my question is, when you get the associate degree and you go for a bachelors do they combine or is it another 4 years?

College????
They combine. In other words, you will go to community college for two years, and than a university for two years.
Reply:That would assume that all of your community college credits transfer/are accepted by the 4-year school... which isn't always the case. I read somewhere else here in Yahoo Answers that someone suggested speaking with the 4-year school as you plan your community college courseload, to ensure the"best" fit. Makes sense to me.
Reply:They combine. Your associates degree will take care of your first two years of college, and then you'll spend two years at your university.

You should get a copy of the university's catelog so you'll know which classes to take while you're at your community college and at what level.

For example, let's say you major in Biology and take a 200 level (sophomore) Microbiology course at your community college. Your university requires a Microbiology course for Biology majors, and you think you have that class taken care of, but the university's Microbiology course is 300 level (junior). They won't accept a 200 level course to fullfil the requirement. In that case, you should have taken something else at the community college and waited until you were at the university to take Microbiology.

That probably doesn't make any sense right now, but eventually it will. Just get a copy of your university's catelog and read about your major's requirements and talk them over with your community college advisor. Make sure he's competent.
Reply:They combine but all of the credits might not transfer over. Most of them should, though. You can be done with both in 4 years.

College?!?!?!?

What are your thoughts about college????

College?!?!?!?
There are soooooo many schools out there and one that is fitting for everyone. Personal development and experience and the best time (right after high school) to learn to live on your own, be responsible, make new friends and have the time of your life. If you want to earn good money some day as well, you need to show you have the ability to learn.... and that college degree is the door opener to most companies. There are also financial aid programs to assist when cost may be a factor so why wouldnt anyone want to go? A chance to grow and see what you can be. Sometimes its not for everyone.... but you wont know unless you try it out ;)
Reply:College is really fun alot more laid back than high schoo. However the work is hard and more demand is put on you. You got to want the education if you don't have the will to be succsfully then you want make much of it. Community college is great if your not sure what you want to do or if you ready for a University. If you do Commmunity College maker you your Circcumal will transfer to a four year school if you want to.
Reply:Depends on an individuals aspirations and how they did in school.

Its great for those with ambition, not so good for those with short attention span or who get bored easily.

Personally, i've been studying computers in college for 5 years now and love it. Gives me great confidence, ambition and is a great place to meet people.

p.s What's with all the ....... MOR E? Think you could do with some 'undergraduate college'.
Reply:getting a college degree nowadays is like getting a high school degree 30 years ago... undergraduate college really doesnt mean anything anymore... college is more about experiencing life with people that have similar goals as yourself... i learned more about who i was during college than any other time in my life... you grow as a person, and its not from taking the classes. undergrad is definitely necessary if you want to move onto specializing in a field... (graduate school) that is where the money is at... 4 years is not enough nowadays... people can definitely be sucessful without a degree, but most of those people are innovative entreapenuers... (spelled wrong) that find a niche for themselves. you cant just get a job out of high school at a normal company and expect to make serious money without a degree... go to college.... if you dont have the money, then take out loans or apply for scholarships... the government will give you money if you are a hardship case... definitely go to college, you wont regret it. the college years will be the best years of your life... try to dorm as well, it will make all the difference and you will make friends for life... your high school friends that dont go to college will fall behind in life... dont join them... its almost embarassing when the topic of college comes up and somebody didnt graduate... its not that hard to pass classes... just put your head down, do your reading and drink heavily.... thats how i graduated...

What college has a good culinary program and ncaa football?

College?????
I'm pretty sure there aren't any 4-year schools that offer culinary arts. That's usually a 2-year degree, or a trade school, like beauty school. Neither of which have football teams.
Reply:thats probably going to be hard to find... good luck with that though
Reply:Choose a good culinary arts school if that is your passion. Maybe you could find one in the same community as a ncaa school. Then you could eat your cake at the game.

College????????

Im a freshman in high school. and i am thinking about going to Michigan State for college for Human services but i dont know what high school classes to take any suggestions?

College????????
If you are considering attending Michigan State as a freshman, you should pursue a college preparatory curriculum that at a minimum includes:

-four years of English (composition and literature)

-three years of math (two years of algebra, one year of geometry, and one higher-level math course)

-three years of social studies (history, anthropology, economics, geography, government, political science, psychology, or sociology)

-two years of science (biology, chemistry, physics, or earth science)

-two years of a single foreign language

If you are lacking in one of these areas, it does not mean your application will not be considered. However, a less rigorous curriculum could put you at a disadvantage.

MSU encourages students to take honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate courses when possible. It is preferable for students to fill course schedules with a majority of core academic courses each marking period, including four each semester during their senior year.

--------------------------------------...

Work hard and keep your grades up, and try to get a good score on the ACT or SAT too!

Good luck!
Reply:Please go to the school's website. They should have information about what their requirements are under the admissions section.

College????

Could someone get into college with good grades in honors classes but with minimal extracurriculars?

College????
Yes you can get into college with just good grades. It is only the very best colleges where you would also need more extracurriculars. Think about what your major will be and then find the college that has the best program in that field. Your high school counselor should be able to help you make the selection. It is also possible that you can still get in some additional activities that will help your application to college.
Reply:yes.

good SATs are important.
Reply:I think it depends on your gpa, what you mean by "minimal extracurriculars" and where you are applying to for college. However, colleges do consider the gpa as important as extra curriculars, so I would reccomend finding something that interests you and go for it.
Reply:Depends what college.

Some colleges put more emphasis on extracurricular than others. But over all, they're very good to have. They show colleges that your an active member of your community, so it would probably be a good idea to have something to put down on the applications.

Maybe you should work with helping hands or play in your community softball league, or even get involved in your community play house.
Reply:It would depend on the College/University you are applying for. And i don't know how much they value these exttracurriculars. But I do think being well-rounded is a sure plus in any application. :)

how to get a doctorate degree in health and nutriional studies if there is one???

College???
FAFSA %26lt;--google it

Even if you're not THAT qualified for financial aid, FAFSA will get you some, trust me. Fill it out as soon as you get your income taxes back (should be soon).

Also, fastweb.net is a great website, even if it is a little ridden with advertising. It asks a ton of questions to help narrow down what scholarships you're qualified for. It makes it really easy to apply for them.

Good luck!
Reply:I went to my financial advisor and he explained everything to me. Anytime that I had a question, he was ready to answer it. It is best to find one advisor that you like and get to know that person. Then you won't have to keep re-explaining yourself to them. Also, know when scholarship due dates are. Also, at a lot of colleges, they have people that will critique your work, have them look over your essay questions to make sure you are being persuasive at the same time as answering their question, it can be tricky. I also talked to old high school teachers and sent them some of my essays and they critiqued them. Once you get started, a lot of the essays are the same for each scholarship! Good luck. On your last question of the doctorate degree, research colleges online and call colleges, if they don't, they may know a college that does.
Reply:The best way to cheat expensive college tuition is to find an English speaking college abroad with moderate costs. Just recently I went to the USA to take two classes that cost me almost 25,000. I decided to drop the classes and head back home to Puerto Rico and take the same courses in ENGLISH and pay only 800 dollars in an accredited college. A friend of mine also left the US and went to Canada and paid 75% less than the tuition she had to pay in Georgia. I strongly suggest moving abroad as a money saving option.
Reply:Sometimes, if you go to a college of your own religion, they'll give you a scholarship.

College???

I don't want to go to college. My family/guidance counselor/teachers expect me to go just because I'm smart. I hate to study and just want to get a decent job with a high school education. I know there are plenty of jobs I could get, expecially the types I'm interested in. What do I do?

College???
The average high school graduate's lifetime earnings are several hundred thousand dollars less than that of the average high school graduate.

The reality is, the fun, interesting, and potentially financially rewarding jobs are mostly open only to college graduates.

You may not wind up working at Wal-Mart all of your life with just a high school diploma, but many doors will never be open to you if you don't have a 4-year degree.

Good luck.
Reply:If you can prove that you are capable of being much more without going to college, I think they would get rid of their stereotypes. If you are someone like Steve Jobs, able to start a big business without going to college, then I guess noone would want to stop you.

Do you really think you are smart enough to outsmart everyone else?
Reply:Well, you will be stuck at some place like wal-mart if you don't at least get some technical training. People in skilled labor will get a better income than people in unskilled labor. You don't really need to go to college, but you will be in a fix if you don't get some technical training (like in carpentry, cosemetology, plumbing, cooking, etc).
Reply:My first answer to you: You just simply haven't found the right school! No matter what you love to do, getting some type of further education can help you learn more about your passion and open doors for you. What are you interested in? If you don't like to study nonsense you're not interested in, then just get into a program that is flexible and allows you to concentrate on what you like, without so many of the general requirements. I would say if your parents are willing to pay for it, why not learn more, get some great connections and internships. Also, college is fun, you learn a lot about yourself and many find completely new interests while there. You can study abroad, too, explore the world. These can really be the most fun 4 years of your life! Personally, I wish I were still in school- the real world of bills and bosses is not all it's cracked up to be!

It's definately a less risky approach, however I know tons of successful people who didn't go to college. Those who know what they want, with more aggressive personalities will do well no matter what. Many of the most innovative people in our society, from Bill Gates, to some of the VPs of the banks on Wall Street did not finish college. I find that the true creators didn't need to sit around studying what has already been done. Their minds were so far ahead. If that's how you are, then do what feels right, and you could always go back to school, maybe even get an employer to pay for it...

Let me know if you need help finding a school that you won't hate!

Reply:I think you are kidding yourself if you think you'll go far without college these days. Life is a lot different than it was even 20 years ago. Even basic jobs above an entry level position require a degree and if you don't have that you'll get passed over no matter how smart or great you are at your job. You should go to college and get a degree.

The difference between college and high school is that in high school, you are basically getting a foundation and you have to study what you are told to study and some of that may not float your boat. In college however, although you still need to do a lot of foundational work, you can also guide your studies toward your passions and develop the skills which will help you in a profession which makes it a completely different thing.
Reply:You have multiple job choices when you go to college and that too high paying ones
Reply:go ahead don't go to college and be a bum from the rest of your life ...someday when you see your neighbor driving a BMW or Ferrari you will get envy or jealous cause you cannot afford one and you will blame yourself by not going to college when your neighbor is a doctor or a lawyer okay.....
Reply:Well, in most cases, that's true.........
Reply:I would have to say I agree with you. I'm 21 years old and am going to college just to make my parents happy. Some people can do very well without a college degree but it is harder to get a high paying job without one. Good luck with your parents.

College?????????????/?

How old were you when you started preparing for college?and what ones did you apply to?

College?????????????/?
The time to start giving college serious thought is when you enter high school. Keep in mind, what you do in high school will affect what colleges you get in to. Try to keep your grades up in high school as well as participating in extracurricular activities that will make you stand out to any college admissions board. Also, think about what interests you. Look at what classes you particularly liked in high school (for example, science or english). That may help you decide later on what you want to major in. I myself began to seriously prepare for college in my sophmore year of high school. Around that time, you should begin thinking about what kinds of school you might want to apply to and the SATs, which you should take at least two times during your junior and senior years of HS. In terms of choosing what schools to apply to, you don't have to go to an ivy league school to get a good education. Think about what schools fit your needs and interests, not how they are ranked. Then you should apply to reach schools (schools that might be difficult for you to get into), safety schools (schools that you are positive you will get into) and schools that fall in between those two categories (you'll most likely get in but its not definite). I chose to go to a public university, which provided me with a great education for a good value. Most importantly, do your research and plan ahead.

Good luck!
Reply:you MUST keep college in mind when you first start high school! if you screw up your GPA in the beginning of high school, you have almost no hope of getting into a good college. i'd say how good your GPA is is about 80% of the admission comittee's decision.

prepare for the sat/act early! i'd say this is about 5-10% of the decision.

sports/volunteering/etc. is the rest of the decision. all that stuff looks good, but i don't think it matters all THAT much compared to everything else.

if you're a girl and planning on doing engineering, you get a little bonus points. and if you're a guy and you're planning on doing nursing, you also get bonus points. it's a kind of affimative action (that i don't really like personally), but let's say you're a girl and you're planning on doing engineering, you can use that to your advantage anyway.

good luck!
Reply:First year of highschool and applyed to every school that had the programs I wanted to get into. Also started looking at grants and such right away.
Reply:preparing in which way? i was mentally prepared in ninth grade! i couldnt wait for college! but educationally- i didnt feel my school prepared me enough. start preparing in Ninth grade education wise you want good grades from the beginning and start building a portfolio of your best work and join some clubs and volunteer. start preparing for college mentally and emotionally around 11th/12th grade. its a big step. its not like high school- you are not forced to be around anyone unless you are in the same class and even then you pick your own seat pretty much everyday. you're fully prepared for college the day your graduate from your university- sad but true. (: good luck

College!!??!!??

Could you please explain the concept of college (what its all about, whats a major got to do with a career and minor, you know everything about it)

Thanxx

College!!??!!??
Wow, college is a little complicated to explain, but I'm trying get to the gist of it.

Basically, some people try to set off on their own after they've completed high school. These people are able to branch out. and be individuals. They're also able to support themselves and deal with whatever life gives them based on having only a high school education. However, some of the drawbacks of going to just high school is that a lot of employers want people with more than just a high school degree, some employers only allow certain people with a bachelor's degree (bachelor's degree basically means you graduated college) or higher to have certain jobs, and companies generally pay more to people with a college degree or higher.

For example, if you wanted to be a manager at Best Buy you could make $15 an hour, (but a college degree may be the requirement for the job) other than an associate who makes $8.25 an hour, but only has a high school degree.

Generally, education is very valued in this world, and you have a lot more opportunities in life with an education so most of us try and go off to college to better ourselves. College isn't all about money. While going to college people can participate in groups and clubs to learn how to socialize and work with people. You're also supposed to grow up more individually when you're at college since you may stay in a dorm room, which gives you an opportunity to live away from your home and parents. You also learn how to budget your time and prioritize since you have no harsh supervisors/teachers. No one tells you to when to study, when to go to class, or do what you're supposed to do; it's all basically your responsibility. College is also known as that time when you have to make that general leap from a kid/teenager to an adult.

Now the other stuff; a major is basically a subject that a college allows you to study in while you work towards getting a degree to graduate. For example, you can major in chemistry, math, art, music. (Most colleges have a list of majors).

Minors are subjects on the side that you can also learn while you focus on a main course. Another example, let's say you really want to do music at college, but you also have an interest in art then you can major in music and minor in art.

Careers are basically certain paths that you're supposed to take with your life. I.e, if you love art, then maybe you want to become an artist or start an art gallery or work in an museum, art shows, etc.
Reply:College experience is to help you choose what you want to do in life. The U.S. college education is broadly oriented, which means that you get to learn a lot of different stuff (sometimes they call this, the "core" requirements or general education). If you happen to like a specific field, you choose a major and you get to take a lot of courses in this major. Hopefully, you will be able to learn something and to do a job (and find a job) after you graduate. A minor is something that you are interested in but you do not really want to be an expert at. It is more of "nice to know" stuff but you do not see it as important as your major.

Sometimes people choose painting or dance as their major. It is great and easy to get all As, I guess. But the question is, can you make a decent living out of it? Can you do a job after you graduate? What about the competition in the industry? It is easier to find a job with a decent salary if you pick something more practical, e.g. engineering, computer science, etc. But if you don't like it or suck at it, well, you can always find alternatives. I remember when I chose a major, I factored in the income potentials to my decision. I also picked the easy ones to graduate. Since to me, comp sci and math are easier to tolerate, I picked them out. So, as a result, the money has been great so far.
Reply:Well learning is just one aspect of college; it’s a life experience and one that you'll never forget. If you have the means and willingness to be totally stressed one minute then have a complete blast the next I highly recommend it.

Picking a major is the hardest decision most people encounter while in college. If you’re lucky enough to know what you want to do with your life then it's an easy decision. Although sometimes you think you know what you want, but then when you start going through the courses for your major you realize its not what you want to do (I was one of those). What I found unless you want to be something really specialized (doctor, lawyer) it’s really just come down to you having that piece of paper (diploma) that opens up more doors for a future career. Look I have friends who were art majors and they're working in IT and history major working in sales for a Fortune 10 company (both doing very well).

In the end college is hard to describe; you meet new people, you learn about yourself (both good and bad), and you open your mind to new ideas and different ways of thinking. You just got to try it. Oh yeah even if you don't know what you want to do you typically don't have to declare a major until after your second year in.

Good luck!
Reply:its suppose to be one of the best experience in your life

i live in arizona and im going to college in pennsylvania in 5 mothns and i have no idea what kind of clothes i will need, im assuming that the climate is very different. i wont be able to go home until the semester break so whatever advice of what to buy and bring would be good.

im allowed to buy a whole new wordrobe soo what are the must have items?

im going to temple university so ill be there from the end of august till mid december and then i can come home for semester break

and how many of each do you think ill need

College???
While you should get clothes before you go, you might want to consider putting some money aside to buy clothes when you get there - just in case ...
Reply:Get a nice wool coat, a scarf, and gloves. You'll start needing them in October. Bring long pants or jeans, and a pair of boots or shoes that can stand up to water and snow that you still don't mind wearing.
Reply:I used to teach at Temple, and the good thing is that it is not a terribly fussy school when it comes to fashion. I remember a lot of jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and short, windbreaker-type jackets. Of course, that was a number of years ago, but those things weren't particularly trendy then either.
Reply:You'll definately need warm winter clothes. Good boots that will withstand the water and snow. A nice, warm jacket. Some sweaters or at least long-sleeved shirts. Hats, gloves, scarfs, that kind of thing.
Reply:You will need 7 pairs of g-strings. That is all you need.
Reply:I live in Georgia but i've been to Pennsylvania and Arizona before. I went to Pennsylvania in the winter. IT GETS COLD! Here in Ga it rarely snows but their it was freezing and their was a blizzard. So I say pack a good warm coat, sweaters, blankets, etc. But east coast summers are VERY different from west coast summers. When its hot, its HOT! We have a lot of humidity in summer so you'll experience some hot, sticky heat. And the nights are hot to. Your gonna miss the hot dry west coast air, trust me. The good thing about the humidity is that you'll have a lesser chance of sun burn. Just remember east coast heat is stuffy and humid. So you may sweat a little more and your hair may frizz.

I go to college in georgia and the key items in my wardrobe that save my life are: T-shirts, Hoodies, jeans, flip flops, and a pair of boots (Ugg style). When your tired from studying and have to get up for a early class you can just slip these on, be comfortable, and look good. some people (skanks) dress up for class and try to wear heels but after walking around campus all day in the heat or snow you will regret it.

Well, it helps a little in some cases - say, if you were a Native American - but frankly, I don't think being Asian is all that much of a help. Asian students aren't really underrepresented at any of the schools I've been to.
Reply:If someone had the EXACT same stats as you, but they were completely white, and the college could only take one of you, they would take you. That's like the only difference it makes.

College....?

what are the advantages and disadvantages for living on campus at college?

College....?
Advantages:

If you've never lived on your own, this would be a way to with out having to worry about rent, it will also give you a sense of independence and maturity. You'll meet a bunch of different people from all over the world and the country, which will be a good to experience all the different cultures there are out there. Also this would be a good way to network for after college.

Disadvantages:

Dealing with roommates, some people take their freedom from parents to an extreme and party and drink way too much. Females have to worry about being attacked, many women get raped when they live on campus. Any comforts of home, you will most likely not find at the dorms.
Reply:living on campus is better in a way since you are able to pay for dorms via financial aid. Off campus works only if you want to throw massive parties at your place.
Reply:Another advantage of living on campus as opposed to living off campus is the proximity to classes. At most colleges, freshmen are guaranteed on campus housing. If this is the case, take it. On campus dorms are are most likely fairly close to your classes to a point where you can walk, skateboard or bike there.

By living off campus your first year you add a lot of unneeded stress and expenses.

1) You may need a car or to ride the bus to campus (not as convenient as walking if you lived on campus!)

2) You'll have to purchase a parking permit for that car.

3) Deal with landlords and most likely sub-par living conditions depending on what apartments you live in (because the good ones will probably already be taken by the time you apply for a lease).

4) Cook and clean! Off campus living has this disadvantage which may take up a lot of your time. On campus living generally has maids who come and clean on a weekly basis and dorm food.

hope that helps!

College ??????????????

i got a letter from a college and it said that they cant make a decision until i submit miscellaneous document needed affiv. lawful presence

College ??????????????
Get in touch with the schools bursar office, or your high school guidance councel, both should be able to help.

College.........?

i start my first day of college on monday. i take evening classes from 6-10PM. it's an 8 month course for a medical assistant program. what ways can i prepare for it?? any tips, suggestions, or inspiration??

College.........?
Practice taking some shots of tequila and drinking lots of beer. That'll get ya started. Then practice saying "no" to drunk guys when you're already wasted...it's harder than you think, ESPECIALLY for freshman girls.

That's all you need to know for your entire first year of college. I'll chat with ya again in 12 months when you start year 2.
Reply:Get lots of rest and don't stress out about it. You'll get all the information that you need come Monday. In the meantime, enjoy the weekend!
Reply:I didn't go to college for nursing, or anything like your medical class, but one thing I can tell you about a 4 hour class is that you should arrive well-caffeinated. It's hard to stay awake when you're sitting in the same place for 4 hours, whether the class is interesting or not! Trust me on this. I've had classes like that.
Reply:My advice is just don't get behind. It is easy to put off your reading or assignments for later, but you will always regret it. Make a plan for yourself and stick to it. Always turn in your assignments on time, unless there is a real emergency.

Also, on the first day of class, try to make at least one or two friends. Exchange phone numbers. That way, if you have questions about an assignment, due date, etc. you will have a contact person to talk to. And, if you are sick and have to miss class, you can also ask to copy their notes.

Speaking of notes, I always take notes--even if it doesn't seem like the information is extremely crucial. It helps me pay attention and remember the details of what the teachers say.

Good luck. I'm sure you will do well because it sounds like you are excited about it.
Reply:Instructors who teach evening classes usually give the students an easier time (eg letting students go home earlier). So don't stress out too much about it. If you take the time to study, you should be able to get a decent grade.

If you're working, try to get some sleep between work and class. Make some flashcards so you can study during your lunch break.

You might also want to bring a recorder to class. Good luck!

You will get into Kean but TCNJ and Rutgers might be a little tough.

College????????

does anyone know WHAT i should study at college to become a geography teacher

College????????
i would recomend geography.

ok you get to choose usually 4 A levels.

so geography

sociology or psycology always look good

pick a one thats a bit different to fall back on

and one you enjoy.

and you can do your teaching traing at uni

your connections adviser should be able to help you further with the choice good luck.
Reply:major in education...
Reply:Easy question -- enroll in college, tell your advisor you want to teach geography, then follow the degree plan they recommend. Better yet, contact colleges you are considering attending and ask them what they offer to prepare to you to teach geography.

I can't imagine that they are any colleges today that don't offer some sort of career counseling servcie. Take advantage of it.
Reply:if u do major in education make sure to have atleast a minor in geography. i highly qualified teacher (as stated by Bush) is one who either has a degree in the field they are teaching or they have enought college hours in that particular discipline
Reply:You get an education degree! Call the education, teaching, department at any college you are looking into, and they will tell you the exact name of the degree you need to teach geography!! You can also ask you geography teacher what his/her degree is!

College...?

what is the best college for those interested in pre-med?

right now im looking at ucla, ucb, uci, harvard, stanford, and possibly brown. any others that really stand out for pre-med? i know the undergraduate school isnt that important, but all these ap classes and clubs will not go to waste.

College...?
Miami University in Ohio has a 93% rate of medical school placement. If you are an Ohio resident, it's cheap, too.

College???

Here's where I'm coming from, I am in a serious relationship which is going on 3 years this September....We are truly in love and couldn't be any happier. Also I've been Asst. Dance teacher since I was 14 years old. And I will be 18 next week, going into my senior year of high school.

A few years down the road I hope to be married, and have my own dance studio teaching young children. My question for you is do I really need to spend my time in college, when I've been dancing all my life?

College???
if you can plan your future that clear, i think you dont need to go to college. because it'll waste your time. maybe take some course is good to replace it.

but be careful about what you've plan. make sure that it really gotta beCOME TRUE..

good luck for your life,
Reply:The fact that you've been dancing so long is great, but I think you should get some formal training as well.

That can only add to your repertoire
Reply:yeah... many times you don't get the jobs you always dreamed of. You should always have alternatives. That's where college comes in. Your degree is always there to save your butt. Else it's to dunkin donuts for you.

College????

How do you adapt from being at home and working at home in highschool to being in college? How different was it for you? How did you feel at the beginning of your freshmen year and did you have friends going to the same school you were going to?

College????
I am in Community College. And I still live at home.

Its easier for me to live at home and go to college.

I enjoy living at home. Since I dont think i could pay for a apartment and go to school full time. I dont have time for a part time job.

College....?

Does anyone no a good college in the seattle/tacoma area where i can become a dental assistant. And how much it would cost quarterly.

Reply:bag of quarters, laundry bag, microwave, small fridge, TV, dvd player, stereo, and of course clothes, food, p0rn

College...????

I went to college for half a year and the stae paid for it. but now i am in a different state and need government funds, what do i do?

College...????
The first thing I would do if I was you would go talk to your Financial Aid office and ask when the deadline for the FAFSA application is. If there is still time then go ahead and go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and apply to see if you qualify for any free federal money.
Reply:Now it seems to me that you are in a state of confusion. Why would you need government funds---ask your boyfriend ---the one you are living with and moved to another state--there is also your parents---I think they have money for their darling daughter. Or you could get employment to pay the costs of higher educations. Put a sign around your neck ""homeless will work for money"""
Reply:Have you been admitted to the school you are planning to attend? Are you considering more then one school?

Make an appointment ASAP with someone in the Financial Assistance Office at the schools you considering attending. They can tell you what to apply for, deadlines, etc. A person, who attends college, has a "Financial Transcript" that gives information. It will show them what you received in the past.

Good Luck!!!

College....?

If you had to chose a college which one would it b? Michigan State University or University of Michigan?

College....?
Obviously, if you have the grades and test scores to qualify, the University of Michigan is the clear choice. It is much more reknown and respected. Not that MSU is a slouch, but, overall, the University is a better university.
Reply:University of Michigan..Go Wolverines !
Reply:Michigan (UM) is a good school on paper and employers will love it. But the school that is better as an experience would be MSU. The people are nicer not snobby and better atmosphere.
Reply:go ohio
Reply:UM!!!
