College!!!?

So, describe to me what your college life was like. The good times, the bad times, or any other times you could think of. Overall, tell me what you mainly got out of college and how it made you the person who you are today.

College!!!?
Well I'm actually in college right now. I can tell you this much, it varies as to what college you go to. On T.V. they portray college as this huge party where everyone gets drunk and you can pass your way through school. Biggest lie ever told! I mean yeah there are parties and people who get wasted, but you have to work really hard to graduate. The college I go to is small so there is no partying. Its good for learning but it can be boring. The only thing I'm getting out of it is a good education. Other than that its boring. But as I said it all depends on where yuou go. I have fun but only outside of my college.
Reply:I want to give you some advice rather than answering your question. For one, decide on what you want out of life before going to any expensive school. If you don't have the money then go to a community college and figure out what you want to do.

You may end up going to college just because you want to support a family in the future and are just indifferent to the subject you are studying. That is OK. I used to judge these people back when I was in school and now I wish I had been more mature like them back then. There are goals bigger than any career goal.

The last thing I want to mention is if you are really really serious about a subject then getting a degree is not enough. I ignored this fact when I was in college and now deeply regret it. It isn't high school, clubs do matter, internships matter, and freelance experience matters. The other thing is if you are in a technical field pay attention and try to recall past information as you move onto new subjects.

If you get good grades on the exams that doesn't mean ****. I got a 3.7 GPA in college and can barely recall any of the information now because I didn't care enough to try to keep it with me. I only learned enough for the exams.

Lastly, studying is important and recalling past information is important but still try to go out ever once in a while and party if you can. These people may even one day help you get into the field you are studying. However, don't let it take over and lead you to becoming a party animal. If you do you might as well kiss your future goodbye because once you are out the real world there is no mercy. And without experience you will easily end up in a dead-end job. I know because I am in that spot right now.

Best of luck and I hope I didn't scare you too much. I got these types of warnings all through life in elementary school, middle school, and high school, but I ignored them. However, this is the real deal. The stuff you do in college will affect the rest of you life more than anything else you've done up till now.
Reply:Well, I am still in college. I went back at 24 years of age, after having years of dead end jobs and lack of respect my employers. I had some really fun times in college- I met great people and attended some awesome parties, was only a mile from the Las Vegas strip for the first year of my education so I had fun in the clubs and gambling. Then I settled down my second year and really focused on academics. The term papers can get to be a drag, but I like may major (psychology) a lot so learning has been fun and interesting. Helping out a professor in his cognitive psychology class last semester though has been the highlight of my college career because the hands on learning has helped me to understand the teaching aspect of psychology and this year I am a research assistant and that experience has given me an edge over other applicants for graduate school. College is cool because it allows you delay the real world for 4 years!
