College?!!?

I have some questions. I'm a senior at high school. I'm going to a University.

1) How many hours a night do you study?

2) Who is the best person to have as a roomate? (BF or Someone you don't know)

3)I'm not very popular, but I want to change that. So, will there be mature guys at college? Best places to meet them? (parties)

4)How much money do u spend a day, cuz I don't wanna work my 1st yr. in college..so I'll have to ask my family for money

5)How long do u go to school each day?

6) Are the classes extremely hard..ur 1st year?

7)I'm wanting to be an elementary teacher..what classes should I take?

8)Do u ever have time for friends? Like going places, stayin in each others dorm, etc.

9)What should I bring %26amp; not bring? As far as living up there %26amp; supplies,tv,food, etc.

10) I have a laptop that I'm gonna bring..do we get hooked up to their wirelss network or do we have to have our own cable.etc. (Cuz I still want to be able to download FREE songs %26amp; stuff)

College?!!?
First, I can tell that you're excited (and you should be), but don't get too hyper!! These are gonna be the best years of your life (forget that people told you that about your HS years!).

1. Really depends on you, your course load, how tough the subjects are for you, but with a normal course load, and assuming you were bright enough to get in :) I'd expect to study 4-6 hours a day, and possibly more on the weekends near exam time...remember, you are not in class all day like HS! You are in classes just a few hours a day and the rest of the time you are doing the work on your own!

2. Part of the whole experience of living away at college is meeting people, so I would say it's best to have a roommate you don't know. I would not recommend rooming with a BF (at least in the first couple of years) as that will be distracting (plus, you don't want to tie yourself down)! But, if you meet someone special and become serious later on (junior or senior year) go for it!

3. The mix of mature to immature guys will be only slightly higher than in HS (sorry!). Yes, you can meet them at parties, but beware of the drunken idiots. If you want to meet more mature guys, you can find them in volunteer or social groups, study groups, classes, the library, the dorm, etc...

4. Good idea not to work the first year if you can do it, but how much you spend really depends on your lifestyle. The University usually gives cost of living estimates in their literature about student life and activities, so check the "brochures" for an idea of average costs.

5. Depends on whether you are on a semester program or trimester program, really, but generally speaking, each course is approximately 4-6 hours per week (depending on the subjects also), so if you have three courses (usually a full load on semester schedule), you can expect to be in class a total of 12-18 hours per week, with classes ranging from 1.5 to 3 hours per meeting. Language classes meet more frequently, often 5 times a week, but with shorter sessions (45 mins).

6. Depends on what kind of an education you got in HS and what kind of a student you are. If you went to a private school or a good public school and got good grades, it should not be too difficult a transition.

7. Talk to your counselor (you should be assigned one your first year), and check the requirements (list of required courses).

8. Yes, if you organize your time well! That is a big part of learning to be independent. Pick good friends (people who balance fun with studies).

9. That is up to you...you'll know more about what is available once you get there...have you toured the campus yet? If not, that might be a good idea. There are usually common areas with TVs, and if you want to get out and meet people, that is one way to do it! Hang out in the lounge! If you are trying to save $$ you might consider getting a mini refrigerator (and, you don't have to pack food...there are local grocery stores, I am sure! :)

10. Check the "brochures" and/or with the administration. I am sure they will have a wireless or wired network, either as part of the student services included with tuition, or for a fee.

Remember to be yourself and enjoy yourself!

Good luck!
Reply:Gotta love me.

1) honestly i dont study every night. I will study the night before a test. (im a junior and i have a 3.3 gpa)

2.) i had a friend that i knew i would get along with. A BF can end up in a ruined friendship. someone you don't know could be a freak

3. If you want to meet a mature guy, your best off in class. Some guy at a party might not even go to college, but if the guys in class, it shows that he values his education enough to show up

4. Depends on your lifestyle. if you dont eat at home, expect about 10 bucks a day. some days ill spend a hundred, others not a dime.

5. You can make your own schedule so you can pick how long you go. some days im in school for 5 hours over an 8 hour period (lots of breaks) some days im only there for 1 hour.

6. watch out for freshmen chemistry. most people will tell you tahts your hardest class. GO TO CLASS. its the most important thing you can do to do well, and the hardest becasue no one is making you go. As you go along, you tend to get into classes that you like more (more close to your major) so it will get easier.

7. You will probably have an elementary education major that will tell you what classes you need. You will figure that out at orientation

8. I have tons of time. i take 17 hours of classes and work 40 hours and go out about 3 times a week.

9. assuming your in a dorm, figure out what you will bring and what your roomate will bring i.e. tv, fridge, microwave. Food is a must, flashlight maybe, just stuff. Dont bring portable stove top or candles as those will get in into trouble

10. most likely your campus and dorm will provide free wireless internet so you should be fine in that aspect, so you will get your free songs.

any more questions you can ask me

good luck
Reply:DO NOT WORRY YOU WILL STILL HAVE A LIFE AND THE BEST TIME OF YOUR LIFE, I STUDY TWO HOURS OF EACH SUBJECT AFTER THE CLASS. I HAVE NO ROOMATES. GO PARTY, BUT IF YOU WANNA KNOW SMART PEOPLE GET INVOLVED AT SCHOOL, ANY CLUB, OR ASSOCIATION IT HELPS ALOT. FULL TIMES IS LIKE NO MORE THAN FOUR HOURS A DAY. CLASSES ARE NOT HARD, BUT RESEARCHES ARE MORE INVOLVED. GO TO YOUR COUNSELOR, HE WILL GUIDE YOU IT DEPENDS ON THE UNIVERSITY WHAT CLASSES YOU SHOULD TAKE. yOU WILL TIME FOR YOUR BEST BUDDIES, BUT SCHOOL GOES FIRST..ALL UNIVERSITIES HAVE WIRELESS INTERNET FOR FREE. BY NOW SHOULD HAVE HAVE ALREADY TAKEN THE ORIENTATION FOR THAT PARTICULAR UNIVERSITY, IF NOT, GO AND ASK FOR ONE, AND IN THE FIRST SEMESTER THERE IS A CLASS NAMED: UNIVERSITY KNOWLEDGE, SOMETHING LIKE THAT, THEY RESOLVE ALL THE DOUBTS AND QUESTIONS YOU HAVE...GOOD LUCK! I AM HAPPY YOU ARE GOING TO COLLEGE!!HAVE A NICE FUTURE.
Reply:Looking for the same exact answers too.. good luck finding them :D
Reply:1) Not that many...but do NOT follow my example. there is usually tons of reading that you should read consistently.

2) It's best if you don't room with a friend because you can end up finding out things about each other that you can't stand, and thus find them a bit more annoying. I really suggest rooming with someone you don't know - there's nothing to lose. My freshman year, my random roommate and I weren't really the best of friends if you know what I mean haha, but you never know. As long as you respect each other's space and needs, you should be fine. Only room with a best friend if you know for sure that things will work out.

3) You can join so many clubs or a sorority or sports or whatever you're interested in. I don't know about mature guys haha...there are some, it's just harder to find. I think meeting guys at parties probably isn't the best place, but you never know...I usually find cool guys when I don't look for them.

4) Well it's not like a spend a certain amount each day. There's your meal plan, which I'm guessing your parents are paying for. Then you need to buy books for class (usually somewhat expensive)...other than that, you'll probably end up paying money for clothes and what not. Don't worry too much about that.

5) You don't have every class every day, it's broken up. Usually two or three times per week. Say you have two classes on a Monday, you would probably be in those two classes for a total of about 2 and 1/2 hours. Some classes are an hour, others can go on for almost 3 hours.

6) The difficulty of the class depends on which class you take. As long as you keep up in class, it won't be so bad. Especially since you're signed up for lower-division classes.

7) Look for education classes. They usually have a series of classes you need to take. But the best advice I can give you is to TALK TO YOUR COLLEGE ADVISOR or a career counselor in you college - there will definitely be one, and they're very helpful.

8) I definitely have time for friends, eating with them, spending time on the weekends, or just relaxing between classes.

9) Bring necessary clothing, stock up on food you think you need and want (a fridge came in handy for me), school supplies, laptop, laundry materials, envelopes/stamps, cash, etc...a tv isn't necessary, but bring one if you want.

10) Well for my college, they had a wireless network we all used.

Have fun and don't stress! :)
